The starting rate covers placement and spreading in an area ready for installation. We review the existing surface, access route and selected finish before confirming the labour and material quote.
If you also need sod removal, clearing or haul-away, we can quote that work alongside installation. The calculator applies the minimum once across your estimate items.
Preparation shapes the result
Putting new stone over old weeds or a problem surface can leave the same issues underneath. We review removal, existing grade, containment and transitions before placing rock. A decorative finish does not replace drainage correction where water is pooling.

How much does rock installation cost in Calgary? +
Installation labour starts at $1 per square foot, with a $500 minimum call-out. Rock and delivery are extra. Removal, grading, fabric, edging and difficult access are reviewed and quoted separately when needed. This is a starting labour estimate, not the complete installed price.
Can you replace part of my lawn with decorative rock? +
Yes. We can quote sod removal and preparation together with rock installation. We first review how you use the area, the existing grade and access. Front yards, backyards and side yards can all be included, whether you want to replace the full lawn area or keep some grass for play and other uses.
Which landscape rock can I choose? +
Tell us the colour, size or material you prefer, such as river rock or Rundle rock. Availability, depth, delivery and price are confirmed for your quote. The starting labour rate does not include the rock.
Will a rock yard still need maintenance? +
Yes. Leaves, soil and seeds can collect in the rock, and weeds can still grow at edges or through accumulated debris. Preparation and an appropriate barrier can help, but rock is not a permanent weed-free finish.
Can you refresh an existing rock bed? +
Yes. We assess whether the existing rock can stay, needs topping up, or should be removed before rebuilding the area. Settlement, dirty material, worn fabric and uneven edges affect the scope.

If large rocks, boulders, concrete, buried debris, roots, or other obstructions prevent drilling to the requested depth, drilling will proceed only as deep as reasonably possible with the available equipment.
The applicable minimum service charge remains payable regardless of the final drilling depth or number of holes completed.
If ground conditions require additional work, specialized equipment, or a different excavation method, any additional costs will be discussed and agreed upon before proceeding.
Important: The minimum service charge is not reduced or refunded due to unexpected ground conditions or obstructions.
